Courses range from introductory levels to upper college seminars. Topics are centered around basic microbiology and genetics, and also cover biotechnology, infectious diseases, medical biology case studies and environmental microbiology. Course offerings change from year to year, due to staffing and programmatic needs, however course catalogs from this and subsequent semesters are available online through the Bard Course List.
The Jude Lab also participates in the research arm of the Bard Citizen Science program. During this immersive first year experience for all first year Bard College students, faculty from all over the globe teach a curriculum based on the properties of water. Students who elect for the "Research" focused version of the course work with water samples collected from around the world, and also perform crucial experimental trials on a panel of violacein producing bacterial strains. This work is presented at the culmination of the Citizen Science program, and is also the basis of ongoing projects in my laboratory.
